Humphrey rewarded by Durban SPCA for fundraising drive

The Durban & Coast SPCA recognised Humphrey for his amazing fundraising work.

HUMPHREY’S winning attitude, soulful brown eyes and wagging tail are just some of the reasons why the local hound has become such a superstar in uMhlanga.

But it’s also his support in raising funds and awareness for the Durban & Coast SPCA that has got tails wagging.
The precious pooch has raised more than R400 000 for the organisation since 2014 and was rewarded for his sterling efforts with a certificate from the Durban & Coast SPCA recently handed to him by Tanya Fleishcer.

“Humphrey is a wonderful ambassador for our SPCA. I do know he also supports our Pietermaritzburg branch which is just fantastic. Last year after his inaugural big walk he handed the SPCA a cheque of R20 000. This certificate of appreciation is to thank him and Alwyn Immerman (his owner), for their sterling work,” she said.

Humphrey accompanies Immerman to work every Thursday at the Medisport Pharmacy in uMhlanga where he drums up support for the association.

The local resident also shared an anecdote of Humphrey raising more than R4 000 on Christmas Day.

“A Ridge Road resident by the name of Farah Stegen had asked her work colleagues to donate money to the cause and she donated R2 000 on Christmas Day. A lady behind her in the queue at the pharmacy saw the incredible gesture and remarked ‘there were still good people in the world’. She then donated R1 000 to the cause.
“Not five minutes later and another resident with his dog, Max, who was adopted from the SPCA donated R500. If that wasn’t enough, a friend of mine, Cameron Whitely called me to say he had donated R1 000 to Humphrey. It’s just wonderful to see such support for what we are doing,” he said.
