Man left critical after Blue Lagoon bridge stabbing

Police are investigating the circumstances that led to the stabbing of two men this morning.

TRAFFIC came to a standstill this morning over the Blue Lagoon bridge after a man, believed to be about 20 years old, was been left in a critical condition. According to paramedics the man had been stabbed multiple times.

Kyle Van Reenen of Marshall Security said a call came through at around 7am to the emergency contact centre from a passing cyclist who said he heard cries for help coming from two men on the banks of the Umgeni River.

“Emergency and rescue personnel were summoned to the scene and an intricate rope rescue system was setup by Metro and the South African Police Services’ search and rescue units, to lower medics to the scene. Further investigation found two men to have sustained multiple stab wounds, one of which was left in a critical condition,” said Van Reenen.

He said rescue officers and medics stabilised the men before hoisting them back to the roadway where awaiting ambulances transported them to a nearby medical facility for further care.

Police are now investigating.
