Maths boffin on a mission to impart his knowledge

The 15-year-old maths whizz said after trying various programmes he realised that he did not want to do the charity work for the sake of doing it, but he wanted it to be something he is truly passionate about.

WHILE building the ladder to help him reach his dream of studying in one of the world’s most elite universities, local learner Andrew Williams has decided to dedicate the journey to helping others by offering free maths tutoring. Andrew’s dream is to become one of the best quantum engineers the world has ever seen. To do this, he believes he has to qualify to study at the best university in the world.

Besides excellent academic grades, to qualify Andrew said he has to have a colourful résumé of things he has done to uplift the community. “Unlike most of his peers, he really loves math and has proven to be good at it. Generally you may find that when people are good at a certain subject, they struggle to teach others. I don’t even know how Andrew does it, but he has shown to be a good teacher who can help others understand math better,” said his mother Lesmarie Williams.

Andrew said, “After attempting various projects I realised that they were just not me. I was merely doing it for the sake of boosting my résumé. I then decided to do combine my passion for math with the need to help others by starting the free tutoring service.”

The Crawford La Lucia Grade 10 learner is offering his services to learners who can’t afford to pay for it. He will offer four hours (in one hour sessions) free per child that he takes on.

“For now I’m just helping Grades 8 and 9, because that’s what I’m more familiar and comfortable with,” he said.
