Man critically injured in La Lucia fire

At approximately 12.45 Crisis Medical responded to a call of a man on fire in the La Lucia area.

A MAN has sustained critical injuries as a result of a fire in La Lucia. According to Crisis Medical Paramedics, the man, believed to be a vagrant, had taken refuge in a nearby electrical substation.

“At approximately 12.45 Crisis Medical responded to a call of a man on fire in the La Lucia area. Paramedics arrived on the scene in William Campbell Drive, to find a 29-year-old man had sustained life-threatening burns to his body and was in a critical condition,” said Crisis Medical’s Kyle van Reenen.

The patient was stabilised on scene before being transported to Addington Hospital for further care.

Van Reenen added, “Unconfirmed reports from the scene suggest the man to be a vagrant who had taken refuge in a nearby electrical substation. The cause of the fire is however unknown and will form the subject of a South African Police Services investigation.”
