DURBAN North resident and Young Wildlife Photographer of Year (2018) winner, Skye Meaker, is set to be among more than 3 000 participants at this year’s World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland.

Meaker, who is the youngest speaker at the forum, will join other leaders and luminaries such as Sir David Attenborough, Jane Goodal and South African president, Cyril Ramaphosa.

According to the WEF, the Annual Meeting is the ‘foremost global gathering representing younger generations, with 50 members of the Forum’s Global Shaper Community, aged between 20 and 30, and 100 Young Global Leaders, under the age of 40, participating.’

This year’s theme is globalisation and Meaker will be speaking and sharing a session with world renowned primatologist, Jane Goodall, exploring close encounters with wildlife.

“It’s such an honour to represent South Africa on a world stage and be the youngest participant at the forum. For me it’s going to be a surreal experience. I never expected to win the young photographer of the year award and I certainly never expected to be able to share a stage with Jane Goodall. Winning the photography award has been a never-ending gift that has opened up amazing opportunities for me,” the Clifton College learner explained.

“For me speaking at the event will be a way to share my story and passion for wildlife photography and conservation. I’m a little nervous to be honest but I’ve been working on my speech for almost two months so hopefully I will be able to make an impression on everyone.”
