Durban North police station targeted in hoax bomb threat

A docket has been opened for the bomb threat and police have confirmed they are searching for the hoax caller.

DURBAN North SAPS fell victim to a hoax bomb threat on Monday resulting in the station shutting down for almost two hours.

According to Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the station, a man had called the station stating three explosive devices had been placed around the station.

“The caller stated the devices would go off between 12 and 1pm. The entire station had to be evacuated which included members of the public as well as our police officers. A search was conducted by the Durban K9 Unit and the Explosives Unit, however no explosive devices were found,” he said.

“This is a serious offence and one that wasted police resources. We had to close the station for almost two hours which affected our service to the north Durban community,” he said.

In July last year, the staff at the Phoenix police station fell victim to a hoax bomb scare.
