VIDEO: Durban North matrics do their schools proud

Hard work pays off for north Durban matrics as NSC results are released.

THE matric class of 2018, who sat for the National Senior Certificate (NSC) examination, has bagged a 78.2 per cent pass rate nationally.

Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga said for the past eight years, the department has noted that the NSC pass rate has consistently been above the previous 70 per cent glass ceiling. The class of 2018 must be commended for maintaining this trend.

The group is the fourth largest cohort in the history of basic education to register for any NSC examination in the country.

Out of the 78.2% pass rate, 172 000 of the learners qualify for admission to Bachelor studies.

Northglen News chatted to, and snapped a few photos of learners from Northwood School, Danville Park Girls’ High School, Northlands Girls’ High School and Durban North College as the results were released on Friday.

 

Northwood School

A total of 28 Northwood School learners, achieved A averages, with, Kiaav Sunderlall achieving an outstanding 8 A’s. Overall, 20% of Northwood students achieved 3 or more A’s, with 242 subject distinctions being achieved overall.

Paul Viljoen, principal of the school congratulated the Class of 2018 on their fantastic results.

“This has been a culmination of hard work from our learners, support from parents and unending commitment from our teaching staff.”

Danville Park Girls’ High School

Danville Park Girls’ High School celebrated its exceptional matric results today as the class of 2018 obtained a 100 per cent pass rate.

Principal of the school, Linda Scholtz said she, along with the governing body and staff were exceptionally proud of the class of 2018’s achievements.

Danville Park Girl’s High School marketing manager, Jo Grey, had this to say: “More than 94 per cent of the class of 2018 attained a Bachelor’s Pass (University entrance) with two girls achieving eight As. A total of twelve girls obtained seven distinctions each,” she said.

 

Durban North College

Durban North College (DNC) top student for 2018 Yusheer Bajrangi–Yusheer managed to bag five distinctions. In overall the school obtained a total of 55As and 86Bs. 46 of DNC learners got Bachelor passes.

 

Northlands Girls’ High School

The Principal, governing body, staff and learners of Northlands Girls’ High School congratulates the Class of 2018 on achieving a 100 per cent pass rate and 93 per cent bachelor’s pass for their NSC final exams.

The learners again made the school proud with their excellent results, with two girls, Karina Sewsunker and Lauren Pentasaib, achieving 8As, three girls achieving 7As and 5 girls achieving 6As.

Lauren Pentasaib, one of the school’s top 3 achievers from our annual speech day and prize-giving, also received an A for IEB administered Advanced Programme Mathematics. Roshni Moonsamy, principal, said that these achievements were testament to the hard work and diligence shown by the learners and the commitment and support of staff and parents.
