Northglen’s most memorable stories of 2018

The Northglen News team takes a trip down memory lane.

THE year is nearly over, and such the Northglen News editorial team got together to review the most memorable events of 2018.

The wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle was one of the positive highlights of the year – and not surprisingly one of Google’s top searches.

On a more local front one of the most shocking moments of the year was when former president Jacob Zuma resigned on 14 February. The nation was glued to their television sets in anticipation of his announcement. Some celebrated his decision and others mourned his departure.

In some more local feel-good-news these three stories have stood out for the Northglen News.

It was a proud moment as Durban North resident, Henri Schoeman, won South Africa’s first Commonwealth Games gold in April. He upstaged race favourites, such as the Brownlees, Alistair and Johnny who finished 10th and seventh respectively.

We will also never forget how five-year-old Lethokuhle Ngcobo, from Mount Moriah, burst with joy as a local NPO donated a brand new wheelchair – specifically designed for children. Little Ngcobo is paralised from the waist down, and sadly there is no cure for his condition.

And finally, we were left speechless by Glenashley Junior Primary learner Sethu Xolo. The nine-year-old can solve the Rubik’s cube in under 25 seconds. Not bad, considering the world record is four seconds. Watch him in action here.
