Drugs worth R1.5 million seized from uMhlanga flat

Police also found R100 000 in cash in the upmarket apartment.

DRUGS to the value of R1.5 million and a large sum of money were seized at a drug bust in uMhlanga. In the early hours of Saturday morning police raided a block of flats on Aurora Drive, in the Gateway precinct. A 53-year-old man was arrested by police after they received information of a drug laboratory in the area.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane, spokesman for KZN police, officers found mandrax and heroine to the street value of R1.5 million.

“The premises is believed to be used for packaging and storage of drugs. The arrested suspect was charged for possession and dealing in drugs,” Zwane said.

National Police minister Bheki Cele was also part of the raid.

Speaking to the Northglen News the Minister’s spokesperson Reneilwe Serero said: “An amount of R100 000 was found along with the drugs,” said Serero.
