Greenwood Park police warn of spike in ATM robberies

According to Greenwood Park police there has been a rise in the number of ATM robberies.

POLICE have warned the public to be extra vigilant when using ATMs that are not near branches. According to Greenwood Park police there has been a rise in the number of ATM robberies.

“Card frauders are out to get unsuspecting victims this festive. We urge community members to avoid falling prey to these criminals,” said the station’s spokesperson sergeant Vincent Mthembu.

Mthembu said to avoid falling prey to criminals, residents should follow the following precautionary measures:

•Alternate the days and times on which you deposit cash

•Refrain from making cash deposits

•Never make your bank visits public, even to people close to you

•Do not openly display the money you are depositing while you are standing in the bank queue

•Avoid carrying money bags, briefcases or openly displaying your deposit receipt book

•It is advisable to identify another branch nearby that you can visit to ensure that your banking pattern is not easily recognisable or detected

•If the amount of cash you are regularly depositing is increasing as your business grows, consider using the services of a cash management company.

Mthembu went on to urge community members to report any suspicious behaviour. He said,”Success in bringing down crime in our area is because of the hard work and dedication of our members and community.”
