Umhlanga Ski Club creates festive cheer

Umhlanga Ski Boat Club treated residents from The Association for the Aged (TAFTA) to a Christmas party last week.

THERE was plenty of festive cheer and spirit as the Umhlanga Ski Boat Club hosted a Christmas party for more than 100 residents from The Association for the Aged (TAFTA) last week.

Holiday festivities brightened the day of several residents who sang their hearts out along with members of the club while others, despite their age, could not resist taking to the dance floor.

Rene Pheasant, a member of the ski boat club and one of the organisers, said the day was about making the residents feel special.

“This is our eighth year hosting the event and we just love giving back to the elderly. For many of the people here today, this is their first outing in the whole year, so it’s fantastic to see such joviality and Christmas cheer. They feel so special which warms our hearts. We’ve had sing alongs, some dancing, great food and the residents were treated to Christmas gifts. Seeing the smiles on their faces makes it all worth it,” she said.

Pete Colby, a John Conradie House (TAFTA) resident said he was blown away by the gesture.

“I’ve been at TAFTA for two years now and I remember every resident speaking excitedly about the outing the Umhlanga Ski Boat Club gives us. It’s fantastic to be part of it. This is my time being hosted by the club and the first time I’ve been out of my home this year so it’s a wonderful occasion. I’d like to thank the club for their amazing heart and what they’ve done for us all. So many of the people I know are also here and they are just having a ball,” he said.
