Durban North police operations pay dividends

The aim of the operations are to check for stolen cars, stolen items, invalid licences, number plates, and licence discs.

AS part of its visible policing campaign, Durban North SAPS held two impromptu roadblocks in eMdloti and uMhlanga last week which reaped positive results.

Two drunk drivers were arrested on Lighthouse Road, uMhlanga while three motorists were fined for driving without a licence.

According to Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the SAPS, with the festive season approaching, police would be continuing their operations in and around the area.

“The aim of the operations are to check for stolen cars, stolen items, invalid licences, number plates, and licence discs. This is also part of our visible policing and crime prevention for the year ahead. There will be more daylight operations such as this on different roads in the area,” he said.

Deokaran also issued a stern warning to drunk drivers.

“We’ve sent out several warnings but despite this drivers have still been breaking the law. We’ve arrested more than 180 people since the beginning of this year. Being arrested for drunk driving is not a misdemeanour, it is a serious crime and a preventable choice.
