Criminals target vulnerable SASSA beneficiaries

SASSA issued a warning saying there are various scams doing rounds on social media by criminals who pose as SASSA officials.

THE South African Social Security Agency has warned its beneficiaries to be extra vigilant as criminals are out to get them this festive season. SASSA issued a warning saying there are various scams doing rounds on social media by criminals who pose as SASSA officials. What’s more they are warning their clients not to pay attention to any of these false messages.

“Do not respond to messages claiming to be coming from SASSA asking you to disclose your ID or PIN details,” said the agency.

The agency also gave beneficiaries a few tips to ensure that they are safe this season:

* Don’t talk to strangers offering help at an ATM
* Don’t give anyone your secret PIN
* Don’t carry lots of cash on you
* Don’t give out your ID number to strangers on social media or telephonically
* Don’t respond to competitions you never entered
