Rocks claim bonus point spoils in rain affected clash

Durban Heat go down by 32 runs in Mzansi Super League game.

A NINE-OVER a side shoot out saw the Paarl Rocks beat the Durban Heat by 32 runs on the DLS method at Kingsmead on Wednesday evening in the 14th match of the Mzansi Super League.

The home side who won the toss, elected to field first and put in Paarl to bat. Rain interruptions (three to be exact) however, meant Paarl would not face the full quota of overs.

Henry Davids was at his explosive best, top-scoring with 46 off 25 balls. However, it was the final over that really hurt the Heat as the visitors scored 20 runs to their total to finish their innings on 98 for the loss of two wickets.

On DLS the total was revised and the Heat were chasing 113 from their nine overs.

In their chase the Heat were under pressure from the outset losing wickets at regular intervals and none of the batsman really got going leaving the home side 32 runs short in the end.

The win moved Paarl off the bottom of the league table and into fourth on the log, the Heat are now rooted to the bottom of the table.

“It has been a tough week and we can make all the excuses but we know what the problem is,” said Durban Heat captain Albie Morkel. “We haven’t been able to lay the platform to go and put on a big total and that has to change for us if we want to go and win games. We’ve got back-to-back games now and maybe that is what we need to get some rhythm together.”

The Durban Heat now travel to Johannesburg on Friday (30 December) to take on the Jozi Stars at the Bidvest Wanderers.
