North Durban homeowners warned against robbers

Often they will arrive clad in blue work wear and when the victims open the gate, they would then be robbed of their valuables.

RESIDENTS have been warned to be extra vigilant following a scourge in home invasions in the province. The South African Police Service (SAPS) has issued a statement urging residents not to allow strangers into their homes.

“This warning comes after the reported incidents in the province where the criminals gain entrance into properties under false pretenses and rob the occupants. Often they will arrive clad in blue work wear and when the victims open the gate, they would then be robbed of their valuables,” read the statement.

The statement comes days after two alleged members were killed in a shootout with Marshall Security on Lansdowne Crescent in Durban North.

SAPS said some of the criminals pose as relatives driving luxurious vehicles.

“There is a trend where criminals arrive in luxury vehicles and hoot at the gates. Most often the owners never check before opening the gates. Criminals are employing this modus operandi as they are aware that most residents tend to be complacent, resulting in them becoming victims of crime,” added SAPS.
