Giants get one over the Durban Heat in PE

Batting first the Heat were blown away by a disciplined Giants attack which saw Junior Dala finish with figures of 2-16.

THE Nelson Mandela Bay Giants earned a nine wicket victory over the Durban Heat in the Heat’s third game of the Mzansi Super League at St George’s Park in Port Elizabeth on Friday night.

Batting first the Heat were blown away by a disciplined Giants attack which saw Junior Dala finish with figures of 2-16.

Heat skipper, Albie Morkel, top-scored for the away team with 28 off just 21 balls. Morkel had to retire hurt after he was struck painfully on his right wrist at the non-striker’s end after teammate Vernon Philander attempted to slap a shot down the wicket.

The Heat went into the break on 127 for six off their 20 overs.

In reply captain of the Giants Jon-Jon Smuts lead the home side well with a measured 62 not out off 52 deliveries.

The skipper was well supported by young Marco Marais who scored 42 and Englishman Ben Duckett who ended 21 not out. They chased the target down in the 18th over finishing on 131/1.

The Durban Heat take on the Paarl Rocks at Kingsmead in their fourth Mzansi Super League clash on Wednesday, 28 November at 7pm.
