Post Office customers to renew postbox subscriptions

SAPO says the deadline for post box renewal is 31 December 2018.

THE South African Post office (SAPO) is reminding it’s customers to renew their postbox subscriptions. SAPO says the deadline for post box renewal is 31 December 2018.

The Post Office’s general operations manager Sbu Xaba said,”Post boxes are readily available and safe and they give customers access their mail at their convenience.”

Xaba also pointed out that customers can do the renewal at any branch, and not neccessarily at the branch where they rent their postbox.

“Postboxes and private bags can be renewed at any post office branch nationally by debit card or cash. They can also be renewed online at www.virtualpostoffice.co.za,” he added.

The communications service provider has had major problems this year with its employees downing tools over employment disputes. This led to thousands of its customers not receiving their mail on time.

Recently SAPO has been closing down some of it’s branches all over the country. The Northway branch in Durban North forms part of the list, as it was officially closed on Friday 9 November.

Residents who had postboxes at this branch will now get their mail at the Durban North branch.

A year’s rent for a postbox is R450. Pensioners can rent a postbox at a discount price of R300.

“The Post Office reminds customers to pay their rental through a notification left in their postboxes. If your cell phone number is on the Post Office’s database, they will also SMS you a reminder,” Xaba said.

Customers with enquiries or feedback regarding postboxes are welcome to contact Post Office’s call centre at 0860 086 860 or send an email to customer.services@postoffice.co.za.
