Lend a helping paw at market fundraiser

This year's Christmas Market is raising funds for Feral Cat Rescue Trust.

FOR the past seven years, a Christmas fundraiser, in aid various animal rescue organisations has been held in Durban North. This year is no different, as local resident, Denzil Burmester is raising funds for Feral Cat Rescue Trust.

The trust, run by uMhlanga resident, Tracey Hartley and a small group of volunteers, are passionate about giving feral cats a better quality of life on the streets.

The trust’s primary concern is sterilisation, but they also feed many colonies and rescue the sick and injured.

Burmester said she could not have chosen a more deserving organisation.

“This is now our seventh Christmas market. In the past we’ve raised funds for Project Dog, Persian Cat Rescue and Feeding the Furballs and this year I thought we’d support Tracey and her amazing work. A portion of the sales on the day will go towards the organisation. The Durban North community has been fantastic in their support of us and we love giving back. I’m hoping to see as many feet through the door on that Saturday to help support Tracey and her team,” Burmester said.

Hartley said she was looking forward to the event and said Burmester’s support for her organisation was invaluable.

“To have local businesses support local animal charities in the north Durban area is incredible. We are grateful that Denzil has chosen us as this year’s beneficiary as December is an incredibly tough month for all rescues. When Denzil began the Christmas market seven years ago, we were the first beneficiary and it’s great to be supported by her again. “It is also a great opportunity to raise awareness on what we do as the trust and make people realise how important sterlisation is,” she said.
