Construction worker dies in La Lucia structure collapse

Paramedics from Netcare 911 responded to the incident just after 1pm on Wednesday afternoon.

A CONSTRUCTION worker has died after a pump house collapsed on him on Lady Ellen Crescent in La Lucia on Wednesday afternoon.

It is understood the worker was part of a group of men digging a trench near the pump house when it collapsed, pinning him against the bank of the trench.

Paramedics from Netcare 911 responded to the incident just after 1pm on Wednesday afternoon.

“Reports from the scene indicate that a concrete structure collapsed on a construction worker. The patient was assessed on scene by an advanced life support paramedic and found to have no signs of life and was tragically declared deceased. eThekwini Fire and Rescue Services as well as the SAPS are on scene to help remove the man from the rubble,” said Netcare 911 spokesman Shawn Herbst.
