Durban North SAPS appeal for help following uMhlanga drowning

The victim was found by a local resident on uMhlanga Beach last month.

DURBAN North police are appealing for the next of kin for a man whose body washed up on uMhlanga beach last month.

According to Captain Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS, the victim is thought to have been a stowaway on a ship just off uMhlanga’s shore.

“A resident found the body lying on the beach on 19 October. We believe the man had been a stowaway on a ship and had tried to swim to shore but due to the rough seas, sadly he drowned. We are still trying to track his family or next of kin since last month.

“He was an African male wearing just black pants and socks. We believe the man could be a foreign national. He was taken through to the mortuary and we are awaiting fingerprint results,” he said.

Deokaran urged those who may have known the victim to contact Detective Carl Harishun on 084 653 4054 or 031 560 8054.
