Holiday makers set to flock to Durban

‘Our records have shown that tourists who visit the city have generated over R19.7 billion.’

MORE than one million holiday makers will flock to KwaZulu-Natal this festive season.

That’s according to eThekwini mayor, Zandile Gumede who was speaking at the City’s Summer Campaign launch this morning.

“Our records have shown that tourists who visit the city have generated over R19.7 billion. This has helped us in contribution of more than 41 000 jobs. About 3.8 million local and international visitors flock to the city of Durban each year, as it is known for its warm climate and exciting warm waters,” said Gumede.

The launch included a display of jet-skis on balmy beaches and an ‘eye in the sky’ plane hovering above to ensure maximum tourist safety.

MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs Sihle Zikalala said, “We urge all holiday makers to enjoy themselves responsibly.”

The launch also involved a walk-about along the beachfront and the installation of shark nets.
