CROW has its hands full as vervet monkey baby season arrives

The centre's Primate Nursery is in desperate need of small fleece blankets, Lactogen 1 formula, wet wipes and plush toys for the babies to seek comfort in.

THE Centre for Rehabilitation of Wildlife (CROW) is asking for help in ensuring that the orphaned animals wild life is protected. The centre is asking for donations of items such as fleece blankets, formula and toys. These items are used to aid in the caring of orphaned new born animals such as monkeys.

“Our Primate Nursery is in desperate need of small fleece blankets, Lactogen 1 formula, wet wipes and plush toys for the babies to seek comfort in. These babies often come from traumatic backgrounds and need special care by our clinic team which includes feeding as often as every hour, night and day. If there is anyone who would be willing to assist with these items, we would be so grateful and so will the babies,” said CROW.

CROW recently opened its doors to Mae who they said lost her parents just a few hours after being born.

“Mae is one of the many young vervet monkeys that will be admitted to CROW this baby season. As this holiday season creeps up on us, feeding of the monkeys increases, generally followed by pellet gun wounds and poisonings as well as an increase in troop members being hit by cars. Unfortunately, this is a nightmare of a reality during every baby season which sees numerous monkeys admitted to rehab centres, including orphaned babies such as Mae,” CROW added.

They have also urged residents to be extra vigilant on the roads and also be tolerant to wild life.
