Nixon does the double in East London

uMgeni Park paddler wins two titles at SA surfski champs.

UMGENI Park’s Hayley Nixon added the SA double surfski title to the single ski crown she won over the weekend.

Reigning world champ, Nixon completed the double by adding the S2 title to her national singles title she won the day before when she and Knysna local, Chloë Bunnett teamed up to win the women’s title.

She won her titles at at the Pete Marlin surfski race in East London which doubled as the SA surfski champs.

Speaking on her K1 win, Nixon said the win was particularly gratifying after she finally managed to win the SA surfski title, some time after she won the world title.

“We have all been having a good laugh about that,” she said. “But this means a massive amount to me. I am so stoked. I feel like I have finally earned my stripes,” she said.

She heaped praise on the race organisers for getting the balance right between delivering an exciting downwind race and ensuring the safety of every participant.
