Baby home to host ball highlighting adoption

The World Adoption Day Charity Ball, which was hosted for the first time last year saw more than R50 000 raised.

THE Durban North Baby Home will be hosting a charity ball to highlight World Adoption Day on Friday, 9 November (6.30pm for 7pm). The event, which will be held at Coastlands Umhlanga Hotel will feature Professor Thuli Madonsela, who will be the guest speaker.

The Durban North Baby Home, which cares for babies and toddlers between the age of 0 and four, and children with special needs is a project of the Peace Agency, a registered NPO and PBO.

The ball, which was hosted for the first time last year saw more than R50 000 raised. Founder of the baby home, Jo Teunissen, said she hoped this year’s event would match the success of the inaugural event.

“The whole idea behind the ball, which falls on World Adoption Day, was to use it as a fundraiser for the home but also to create awareness around adoption. I think many people see it as a rigmarole and we hoped the event would highlight the success stories and it’s just a beautiful opportunity to share and celebrate adoption.

“We also wanted to use the event to celebrate the adoptions we have had and create awareness of what we do. The turn out and support from last year was great and we are hoping for more of the same this year,” she said.

There will be loads of raffles and prizes up for grabs at the ball. The Black Lapels and Women in Singing Harmony (WISH) will also be performing on the evening.

Tickets cost R650 per person and numbers are limited to 220 people. For more information or to find out how to get involved, email jo@peaceagency.org.za.
