SASSA beneficiaries deadline extended

SASSA will not deposit any payments for January in the old cards.

SOUTH African Social Security Agency (SASSA) grant beneficiaries who have not yet renewed their cards have been given another chance to do so. The newly appointed carrier of the grant payouts, the South African Post Office(SAPO) has issued a statement saying the deadline for card renewal has been pushed from end of October to end of December.

“SASSA grants recipients that are still using the old SASSA card are notified that these cards will expire on 30 December. SASSA will not deposit any payments for January in them,” read the statement.

The statement went on to say, “SAPO also caters for beneficiaries who are not comfortable using a pin number. These beneficiaries can present their ID document to make a withdrawal inside the Post Office branch using biometric authentication instead of PIN to withdraw funds. People still using the old ‘white’ SASSA card are urged to obtain the new ‘gold’ SASSA card in order to receive their January social grants payments.”

Getting the new gold SASSA card is simple. Visit any Post Office branch, present an identity document and you will be issued with the new card within minutes. The new SASSA card can also be obtained from SASSA offices nationwide. Special arrangements are made for immobile beneficiaries who cannot visit a post office. These beneficiaries (or their relatives) should call the SASSA toll-free number 0800 60 10 11 to arrange for a home visit.
