Local family reunited with kidnapped toddler

The boy who was found by police on Saturday, was kidnapped last Monday, 20 October.

A MOUNT Moriah family is relieved after they were reconciled with their kidnapped two-year-old son.

The boy, who was recovered by police on Saturday, was kidnapped last Monday, 20 October.

According to his mother, the child was taken by one of her tenants, who then called demanding a ransom of R20 000.

“I’m just glad that my boy is alive and back home,” said the mother.

The woman alleged: “The suspect was renting one of my back rooms along with two females. They offered to take care of my son while I went to run a few errands. When I came back they were nowhere to be found.” 

The family reported the matter to Phoenix police who managed to track the suspect down.

Police spokesperson, Thulani Zwane said the suspect was apprehended in the north of the province where he was hiding with the child.

“After receiving information of his whereabouts, our members apprehended the suspect in KwaNongoma. He was charged with kidnapping and will appear in the Verulam Magistrate’s Court soon,” said Zwane.
