Sebastian drifts to third in series

The Clifton College learner said there were more positives than negatives in his first competitive year in the sport of drifting.

LA Lucia resident Sebastian Rich recently finished third in the series standings of the Supadrift Series. The 17-year-old competes in the sport of drifting, where crossing the finish line first does not guarantee you are going to win, unlike other racing events.
Rich, who competes in the Pro 1 class finished the season on a low due to his vehicle’s engine failure at the Carnival City racetrack.

Undeterred, the Clifton College learner said there were more positives than negatives in his first competitive year in the sport of drifting.

“Considering this was my first drift series, I’m proud of what I achieved. Sadly my car engine failed on the first day of the racing so that had an effect on my overall placing. I feel if I had competed in all the events this season I could have finished in first place. Having said that, I’m super happy to make it on to the podium,” he said.

Rich said with his matric year approaching he would also need to be strategic for next year’s series.

“It’s going to be tough next year especially with balancing my studies and my driving but I will aim to compete at the local events. I would like to give it my all when I can and I’m not expecting to be as competitive in year’s Supadrift Series. This is my passion and I love the sport so I want to be able to do the best I can,” he said.

He added during the off-season his team would be working on the engine.
