Couple arrested for string of uMhlanga/La Lucia break-ins

The duo have been linked to four cases in the area so far.

A COUPLE has been arrested by members of Excellerate Services Investigations this week after they were linked to four burglaries at various business premises within the greater uMhlanga and La Lucia area.

Nico Potgieter, head of investigations at the company said the suspects, who shoplifted by day, targeted the businesses between 5pm and 7pm at night.

“The items that were mostly sought after by the gang included laptops, flat screen monitors and computer towers. The modus operandi involved a woman ringing the intercom of the business premises to see if anyone was present. If someone did answer, she would act as a job seeker. The woman is also also involved in the burglary and is seen partaking in one of the cases.

Potgieter said the suspects were identified through CCTV footage.

“We are currently looking for other suspects involved in the burglaries. The successful arrest of suspects shows how private investigators and the SAPS can work hand in hand with each other in order to deliver justice to wanted criminals,” he said.

Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS confirmed that the duo had been arrested and charged for various business break-ins in the area. He added investigations were ongoing.
