Robbers target uMhlanga pedestrian

The suspects made off with the victim's laptop and his bag which contained several other items.

A PEDESTRIAN was robbed of his laptop and his shoes by three suspects on Sunday afternoon on Twilight Drive (near the uMhlanga Ski Boat Club). According to the Durban North police spokesman, Capt Raymond, the victim had been walking towards his flat at about 7.30pm when he was confronted by the suspects.

“The victim said he noticed three men walking close to him and he didn’t think anything untoward would happen until one of the suspects crept up behind him and grabbed him by the neck.

“The two remaining suspects then removed the victim’s bag containing his laptop, they also took his watch, his bag which contained his shoes, clothes and other items before fleeing on foot,” he said.

This is the first reported case of a pedestrian being mugged following several robberies in July in the north Durban area.

Deokaran urged residents to walk in groups wherever possible and to stick to well-lit and well populated areas.

“Muggers are far less likely to target people when there are others around or they are likely to be seen. In this case sadly the suspects spotted an opportunity. We have now stepped up patrols in an effort to curb pedestrian muggings,” he explained.
