City to correct Glen Anil speed hump gaffe

A LITTLE over a year since the City admitted it had placed speed humps in the wrong place on Glen Anil Street, more speed humps are being put in to correct an earlier mistake.

Ward 110 councillor, Pete Graham, said he had been trying to get the eThekwini Traffic Authority to fix their mistake for more than a year.

According to Graham, the humps were meant for the residential section higher up the road.

“What I couldn’t understand at the time was just before the installation, I had a site meeting with the contractor and there was a plan about where the humps should go. When I realised the City had put them in the wrong place it was too late. It has taken almost a year of engaging with the City who have now undertaken to put in additional traffic calming humps which will be installed where they were originally supposed to go.

“This is great news for many of the residents who have almost been taken out by people flouting the speed rules on the residential road. Work is expected to start this month,” he said.

At the time when the humps were installed, then City spokesperson, Tozi Mthethwa said the humps would remain in place because it assisted in regulating speeds along the road.
