AN uMhlanga resident was assaulted in an armed robbery on Canterbury Crescent on Thursday morning. The incident occurred at about 10.40am.

According to Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS, the homeowner spotted one of the suspects through the window while she was in the bathroom.

“The suspect was wearing a balaclava and screaming at someone. She pressed the panic alarm and locked herself in the room. However the suspects had broken through the bedroom door and then the bathroom door.

“Four suspects all wearing balaclavas and gloves and two of whom were carrying crowbars grabbed the homeowner and slapped her. The suspects took cash, jewellery and other items before fleeing the home. The victim suffered minor bruises,” confirmed Deokaran.

This was the second armed robbery in the area in a 24-hour period following a robbery on Montague Drive in uMhlanga on Wednesday.
