Two pedestrians killed on N2

According to Greenwood Park Police spokesperson, Vincent Mthembu, two people died in separate incidents on Saturday and Sunday.

RESIDENTS have been urged to avoid crossing freeways, especially at night.  This past weekend two people lost their lives when they were struck by vehicles while crossing the N2. According to Greenwood Park Police spokesperson, Vincent Mthembu,  the two people died in separate incidents which happened on Saturday and Sunday. “On Saturday, 6 October at about 19.30pm, a 36-year-old female pedestrian was trying to cross the road when she was knocked by the car and died instantly,” elaborated Mthembu.

“On the next day at about 5.45pm along the M25 next in Avoca, another accident occurred where a 23-year-old male was knocked by the taxi. He also died on the scene. It is very sad because the transport month was just launched on Thursday and was aimed at decreasing the fatalities on our roads,” added Mthembu.

He further urged community members to be extra vigilant before attempting to cross any road.

“Community members should know very well that it is too dangerous to cross the freeway especially at night. They must use the bridges provided and it does not matter if they take a long route to work because its better get to work late than never make it. When you cross the robot be patient and be careful and understand how the green and red colour of the robot works to save your life,” he said.

Both drivers have been charged with culpable homicide.
