Department of Transport gears up for festive season

As this month - October marks the national Transport month, the department led by MEC Mxolisi Kaunda has decided to use it as phase one of ensuring safety on the province's roads.

THE Department of Transport in the province said it has already started preparing for the festive season ahead. As this month – October marks the National Transport month, the department led by MEC Mxolisi Kaunda has decided to use it as phase one of ensuring safety on the province’s roads.

This year the month will be hosted under the theme: “Together we move South Africa Forward.”

Provincial spokesperson for the department Mluleki Mtungwa said, “One of our main focuses as a province will be road safety education in various parts of the province.”

The department will this month be focusing mainly on four pillars namely; infrastructure, public transport, road safety and radical economic transformation within the sector.

“The four pillars will be our guide to decreasing road fatalities and accidents on our roads ahead of the festive season. We urge road users to obey all rules and report anyone who breaks them as it is a criminal offence,” added Mtungwa.

MEC Mxolisi Kaunda is expected to officially launch Transport Month on Thursday 4 October 2018.
