A COUPLE visiting the Durban North Japanese Gardens on Saturday afternoon were held up and robbed by armed men. The robbery was the first reported incident since last May when a woman was stabbed in a robbery at the popular gardens.
According to Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS, the robbery occurred at about 4pm.
“The couple were walking near the lower half of the gardens when two men, one tall and skinny and another slim and short, walked up to them and pointed a firearm at them. His accomplice was armed with a knife. They demanded the couple’s valuables.

“The suspects made off with the couple’s Samsung cell phones as well as a gold ankle bracelet. The men fled the scene on foot and the victims ran off to get help,” he said.
Since March 2015, Northglen News has reported on more than 12 cases with the majority of the robberies committed near the bottom of the park.
