Armed robbers target Durban North home

The armed gang made off with various items in the armed robbery.

A GANG of suspects stormed a home on St Andrews Drive on Thursday afternoon just after 1pm.  According to Kyle van Reenen from Marshall Security suspects armed with firearms derailed the driveway gate before forcing entry to the home.

“The homeowners who were present at the time, were confined to a bedroom while the armed men ransacked the home, making off with flat screen televisions, cell phones and various other undisclosed items, before fleeing in an awaiting getaway vehicle,” he said.

Van Reenen added the victims were left severely traumatised.

Durban North SAPS spokesman, Capt Raymond Deokaran, confirmed the robbery had occurred.

In a separate incident, a suspect was arrested by a Blue Security officer on Wednesday afternoon. The suspect, who was armed with a knife, had earlier threatened a domestic worker on a property on Mount Argus Road said Andreas Mathios, the company’s community and media liaison officer.

“An armed response officer, who was patrolling the neighbourhood heard the screams for help from a domestic worker on the property and stopped to assist her. She advised him that a suspect, who was armed with a knife, had entered the property and threatened her and then jumped over the wall when she started screaming for help,” Mathios said.

“The officer noted the description of the suspect and went in search of him. He spotted the suspect emerging from another property in the area and managed to arrest him.”
