Yogi puts in all-round performance

Yergesh (Yogi) Naidoo represented the Drakensberg Thunder in this year's competition.

THE recent success of the Dolphins Premier League (DPL) competition can only strengthen club and schoolboy cricket. That’s according to Redhill resident, Yergesh (Yogi) Naidoo who represented the Drakensberg Thunder in this year’s competition, captain by Hollywoodbets Dolphins player, Vaughn van Jaarsveld.

The DPL was formed by the KZN Cricket Union to bring new life to club cricket, and to give every cricketer in KZN a chance to prove themselves at the next level.

The competition, was played in an IPL format league.

Despite bowing out in the group stages of the tournament, Naidoo said the experience has been phenomenal.

“I’ve been playing cricket for the last 17 years and this is a first for me. I’ve loved every moment of playing for this team. I think this concept is a winning one. The tournament has been phenomenal to schoolboy cricketers giving them exposure to those up-and-coming stars.

“Every team had a mixture of professionals, club cricketers and school boy cricketers which was great,” said the Clares Cricket Club member. I really hope the tournament grows from strength to strength. It has been an absolute blast. Working at Kingsmead and knowing some of the Dolphins’ players has also made the tournament that much more enjoyable,” he said.
