Armed men storm uMgeni Park home

The suspects fled the scene with cash and jewellery.

A GANG of suspects using balaclavas stormed an uMgeni Park home on Thursday afternoon in an armed home invasion.

According to Blue Security’s Andreas Mathios the resident arrived home and pulled into the driveway of his property in Buckleigh Place at around 4.50pm.

“The resident didn’t notice anyone near his property when he drove in, but after greeting his family, he tried to close the driveway gate. It wouldn’t shut and two men wearing balaclavas and armed with what appeared to be shotguns or rifles appeared at the gate,” Mathios said.

“A further three balaclava-clad suspects, armed with firearms and crowbars, ran into the property. The suspects forced the resident and his wife and children into the house where they demanded cash and jewellery and to know where the safe was kept.”

According to Mathios a vigilant neighbour drove past the house during the ordeal and noticed the armed suspects at the driveway gate.

“She drove to her home and informed a neighbour who then drove up to the victim’s home and started to repeatedly press his vehicle’s hooter to sound the alarm,” Mathios said.

“The suspects ran out of the house and jumped into a white Mercedes Benz A Class. They fled the scene with cash and jewellery. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.”
