Pedestrian robbed on uMhlanga bridge

This is the second case of a pedestrian being mugged following a robbery last week.

A PEDESTRIAN was robbed of his shoes and a cellphone by two armed suspects on Wednesday afternoon. According to the Durban North police, the victim had been walking home at about 3.30pm when he was confronted by two suspects.

The victim was walking on Canegate pedestrian bridge when he was confronted by the suspects. One of them wrestled him to the ground, while the other placed a knife against his neck.

The suspects took off his shoes and grabbed his cell phone before fleeing on foot.

According to police the suspects were allegedly seen jumping into a taxi on the M41.

This is the second case of a pedestrian being mugged following a robbery last week on the bridge over the M4.

At the time, Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North police had urged residents to walk in groups wherever possible and to stick to well-lit and well populated areas.

“Muggers are far less likely to target people when there are others around or they are likely to be seen,” he explained.
