WATCH: Mamba rescued from family’s living room

The homeowner came face-to-face with the venomous snake after parting the curtains in his lounge.

A VERULAM family are thanking their lucky stars after a 2.2 metre black mamba was rescued from their living room on Tuesday.

Sunningdale snake man, Jason Arnold, said the snake had taken shelter in the home for almost a week without the family encountering the deadly serpent.

Arnold was called out by members of RUSA (Reaction Unit South Africa) who felt the expertise of a specialist snake handler, were needed.

“The homeowner arrived at his house and discovered a vase smashed on the lounge floor. He immediately realised something was wrong and thought that monkeys or something had entered the house and knocked it over.

“He started checking the windows to see which window was possibly left open and where they could’ve entered from. Upon drawing a curtain in the lounge, he stared right into the face of an open mouthed mamba. The snake had settled itself on the burglar gate behind the curtain,” he said.

According to Arnold the snake had been in the home for a week and was unable to get out due to closed windows and doors.
