Pedestrian robbed on bridge over M4

The victim was held up at knife-point.

DURBAN North SAPS has warned pedestrians and domestic workers using the Fairway pedestrian bridge over the M4 to be vigilant following an armed robbery.

According to Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for Durban North SAPS, a man was held up at 7.30am on Monday.

“According to our report, the victim was on his way to work when he was confronted by a suspect wielding a knife. He demanded the victim’s valuables before fleeing on foot. This is just a warning to other pedestrians and domestic workers to be wary as we will be upping our patrols in the area,” he said.

Deokaran urged residents to walk in groups wherever possible and to stick to well-lit and well populated areas.

“Muggers are far less likely to target people when there are others around or they are likely to be seen,” he explained.
