Leading the field of medical aesthetics
When it comes to medical aesthetics and the many aspects of anti-aging, Dr Michelle Blom of the Renewal Institute in Umhlanga is a leader in her field.
THE path to success requires hard work, determination and passion. So says Dr Michelle Blom, a medical doctor working on the forefront of medical aesthetics at the Renewal Institute in Umhlanga.
The Renewal Institute, she explains, consists of Skin, Body, Health, Brain and Sleep renewal, taking a holistic approach to anti-aging.
“At the Renewal Institute we understand that nothing stands in isolation, so we encourage our patients to not only invest in their physical appearance, but in their health and well-being as well,” she said.
The success she has enjoyed thus far in her field is fuelled by her passion and the knowledge that every day brings a new opportunity or experience to be discovered. “I don’t want to miss out on anything!”
She has much to be proud of and lists three events in her life that she considers as life-changing moments. “The first is being chosen to represent South Africa at the global young leaders’ conference in Washington in my matric year in 2001. The next is achieving my medical degree in 2008 and last, but by no means least, is the birth of my daughter in 2015.”
Maintaining a balance between the challenges and demands of her work and family life requires a level head she says. “A good start is enjoying what you do because it’s not easy to completely switch off from one or the other. I try to keep a level head at all times, both at work and in my personal life which helps to make sense of it all.”
Prioritising is essential as well, she said, adding that one must be prepared to give and take. “And then, a little bit of wine also helps!”
A staunch believer that everything happens for a reason, she says keeping this in mind helps her accept things in life and learn from them, as opposed to resisting whatever happens.
Looking to the future she says she hopes the Renewal Institute will continue to grow in its role as leader in the aesthetic industry and keep pushing boundaries within the aesthetics field.
“The Renewal Institute was one of the first aesthetic practices to open its doors more than 13 years ago and has managed to hold its position at the top of the game. It can only grow from strength to strength,” she said.
