Armed gang ransack uMhlanga home

The suspects had their faces partially covered and were wearing gloves during the robbery.

DURBAN North SAPS are looking for a gang involved in an armed robbery on Ridge Road on Friday evening. Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the station, said a gang of five armed suspects stormed the home ordering the homeowners to lie on the floor.

The incident occurred at about 5pm said Deokaran.

“The family reported they saw a man with a crowbar walking in their yard and attempted to press the panic button. However, the gang had gained access to the home by that time by knocking down the front door. The suspects, who were wearing gloves and had their faces partially covered, instructed the homeowners to lie on the ground. The gang then ransacked the home before fleeing on foot in the direction of the M4 where we believe a getaway vehicle was waiting,” he said.

According to Blue Security’s Andreas Mathios the suspects stole a television, a microwave, jewellery and other electronic devices.

The incident comes a month after a brazen attempted robbery at a home also on Ridge Road.

In that incident, suspects used a rubber mallet or piece of stone to break through one of the slats of the boundary wall to gain access to the home.
