VIDEO-One dead as vehicle ends up in river

The fatal accident occurred near the Springfield SPCA.

A MAN believed to be in his 30s has died following an accident on Inanda Road near the Durban & Coast SPCA. According to Rescue Care spokesman, Garrith Jamieson, the driver of the vehicle somehow lost control of his vehicle before colliding with the bridge and veering off the road and into the river.

“Several emergency services and medical personnel were on scene to retrieve the body of the driver who was sadly declared dead on scene. A passenger, also in his 30s sustained moderate injuries. Once stabilised a rescue operation was taken to bring the injured man up from the river below by SAPS Search and Rescue and Durban Fire Department. Once brought to an ambulance the man was transported to a nearby hospital for the further care that he required,” he said.

The fatal accident follows a string of accidents in and around the area. On Sunday morning, four people were injured in a head on collision on Lighthouse Road.

Just 12 hours before that, two people were seriously injured while two others were critical following a collision between a taxi and a truck on the R102 North Coast Road.
