Sharks Board suspends dissections and boat tours

The move comes following weeks of sporadic strike action.

THE KwaZulu-Natal Sharks Board has closed of all its premises across the province. On Tuesday morning the Maritime Centre said its head offices on Herwood Drive will be closed until further notice.

“We regret to inform you that, the KZN Sharks Board management has taken a decision to cancel all Shark dissections shows and boat tours scheduled for this week,” said the centre’s management in a statement.

This has been attributed to the industrial action strike. On Tuesday morning workers took to the streets outside the centre’s premises, demanding wage increases. The strike comes after Sharks Board management requested to postpone wage negotiations with the workers.

“For safety reasons, this had led to the closure of all gates of the KZN Sharks Board premises, including the head office in Umhlanga 1 A Herrwood Drive, uMhlanga. We apologise for any inconvenience that this may have caused you,” read the Sharks Board statement.
