BALANCING the demands of a legal profession and life as a wife and mother to her one-year-old daughter requires some serious multi-tasking, but for attorney Sheena Dasrath-Govender, it’s all in a day’s work.
Sheena is the sole director of SDG Attorneys and Conveyancers Inc. based in Umhlanga Ridge. She is justifiably proud of the firm she established in 2013. Sheena heads up the professional team of women which includes, other than herself, a further two attorneys and a legal secretary. While they specialise in property transfers, the firm is equipped to deal with all legal matters.
Sheena attributes the continued success of her firm to the fact that she and her team treat each individual client as important and ensure that every client receives the attention they deserve and are given the best professional advice and service they require.
“Every client is important. Whether it is a client who is just making an enquiry or a client who is instructing us, they are equally important to us. I have learnt that the enquiry client generally ends up instructing us at a later date. We also make sure that we respond to every email and query we receive,” she said.
With the passion she has for law and the determined spirit she embodies, Sheena says she looks forward to the future, quoting one of her favourite quotes by Helen Keller.
“Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence. I live my life by this quote,” she said.
“I see our firm expanding in the future so that I am able to take on more staff and empower more women. I’d also like to establish branch offices across South Africa.”
Her advice to women looking to succeed in the workplace is simple. “Reach for your dream and take risks. I left a steady job in the corporate field with the hope of building a successful law firm and have realised my dream to an extent.”
