Plan to ease the petrol burden on consumers

Last week Thursday PAPPPI met with officials from the presidency, to discuss plans for a fuel price drop as soon as possible.

THE presidency has tasked the economic cluster of government to investigate, and report on, means to reduce high fuel prices. This is according to People Against Petrol and Parafin Price Increases (PAPPPI) leader, Visvin Reddy.
Last week Thursday Reddy met with officials from the presidency, to discuss plans for a fuel price drop as soon as possible.  He said the meeting served as an indication that government is considering dropping fuel prices.

“The meeting is a major victory as we were able to secure it within a short space of time. It is an indication that we are taken seriously and our proposals are being considered,” said PAPPI leader Visvin Reddy.

Presidency spokesperson Kusela Diko confirmed the meeting.

“There was a meeting between a presidency delegation and PAPPPI leaders. However what the president has tasked the ministers with was finding ways to rather ease the burden on consumers rather than decreasing fuel prices,” said Diko.

Reddy added:”We managed to intervene at the appropriate time as the recommendations from the Economic cluster ministers were due tomorrow. Our engagement with the highest office of the country is key in finding solutions to the crisis. However, we emphasised the point that if immediate intervention to provide relief to our people is not forthcoming, we will continue with our plans to mobilise all mass based organisations and the South African public, to support our call for a nationwide shutdown.”
