Sunningdale couple assaulted in armed robbery

The armed robbery comes on the back of several break-ins and home invasions in the north Durban area.

A SUNNINGDALE couple was assaulted in a violent armed robbery in the early hours of Tuesday morning. According to Marshall Security’s Tyron Powell, the incident occurred at about 4.30am.

“The suspects overpowered the homeowner and forced her on the floor. They then rushed towards her husband who was also assaulted and was punched in the face. He sustained a laceration to his face and his left eye was injured in the incident,” he said.

The suspects fled with two TVs, laptops and a cell phone. It is believed they jumped over the wall of the complex before fleeing in the direction of the N2 freeway.

The armed robbery comes on the back of several break-ins and home invasions in the north Durban area.

On Wednesday last week, an armed gang ransacked an uMhlanga home stealing a safe and other valuables. The suspects accosted two domestic workers, who were at home at the time of the robbery, and confined them to a bedroom.
