New outdoor gym a boon for Glenhills

The outdoor gym situated at Rinaldo Road park will be completed in the coming weeks and has been described as a ‘boon for the area’ by ward councillor, Pete Graham.

IN 2014 the City began its eThekwini Municipality Outdoor Gym Initiative in an effort to promote a healthy city and encourage residents to exercise. Since its inception, more than 20 gyms have been built across the city. Recently, the Glenhills community has been added to the long list of areas who will be benefiting from this positive initiative.

The outdoor gym situated at Rinaldo Road park will be completed in the coming weeks and has been described as a ‘boon for the area’ by ward councillor, Pete Graham.

The machines are simple, yet effective, have been designed to withstand the elements and access to the facilities will be free and available to everyone.

Graham said he was thrilled that the initiative had been included in the ward.

“The project has been well received and used in other areas within Durban, and we hope that it will be just as successful in this community. Several residents have contacted me saying they are excited about the project, which is just fantastic. The park is the perfect spot as it is easily accessible, and with the gym being built in close proximity to the playground. I’ve got a vision for the park and this is one of a few projects that will improve and enhance the area. The project was started late however it should be completed within the coming month,” he said.

In the past City mayor, Zandile Gumede has encouraged residents to make use of the outdoor gyms and to encourage family members and neighbours to adopt a healthy lifestyle.

According to Gumede, the city plans to roll out the outdoor gyms to all 110 wards.
