Woolworths on high alert following recent bomb scares

Woolworths is working closely with the SAPS and the Hawks.

RETAIL giant, Woolworths this afternoon said they have already begun increasing security measures at its stores across the province.

Earlier today another ‘incendiary’ device was found at one of its busiest stores in the Durban CBD, Woolworths West Street.

The device was found almost two hours after a store manager at a Woolworths store in La Lucia, Illala Ridge called  the SAPS bomb squad after he saw a ‘suspicious’ device that turned out to be a firecracker.

In a statement, a Woolworths spokesperson said: “We can confirm another incendiary device was found in our West Street store today. As a precautionary measure, we immediately evacuated the store in order to ensure the safety of our people and our customers. Authorities have been called in to investigate.

“We are shocked by the recent incidences in KZN, both within our stores as well as in the broader community. We have already put numerous protection and detection measures in place to ensure the safety of our people and our customers.”
