Play your part this Mandela Day

Grace Church will be offering a range of Mandela Day activities.

MANDELA Day gives us the opportunity to be charitable and selfless. That’s the message behind Grace Church uMhlanga’s Mandela Day initiative. Speaking to Northglen News, Dimitra Nicolau from the church said this year’s activities offer something for everyone.

“Last year we had fewer activities on Mandela Day but this year we decided to up the ante and have a range of activities to give everyone a chance at doing their 67 minutes of service to the community. One of the reasons we decided to do everything at the uMhlanga campus was because of the proximity to the uMhlanga business hub. So we hope not only to see businesses on the day but residents and families. There is definitely something for everyone.

“There’s a photo booth for teams to take group photos against a backdrop of Mandela with quotes. We also have a pretty cool activity which involves the icing of cupcakes which form the South African flag. The cupcakes will be colour coded and we will be making a timelapse video of the entire activity which will be great. All the provisions for the activities will be provided. We just need people to join in,” she said.

Nicolau added this year’s beneficiaries included ICare; Key of Hope; Greyville Outreach; Crossroads KZN; Sinakekele; Isinkwa Setheku’s ministry to the homeless.
